TrailReport: Paul.. The SNIRT run plans are coming together nicely. We have all the roads open necessary to run this event. In addition I have been able to get most of the roads in Lorraine, Worth and Rodman open so that the locals can ride in and avoid all the parking hassles. I will soon print a list of the roads open which you and others should print in case you are stopped. In addition we have had a local artist do a drawing which we be our official SNIRT Shirt. We have only a limited supply so you should get them early priced at only $15

TrailReport: Jon...I would assume BC trails to be is spring conditions. There has been no grooming since Sat eve and it's unlikely that grooming will continue due to the lack of snow on some trails and the daytime temps reaching into the 40's We have started the spring re-conditioning of the Bully which when completed will be fully cleaned and stored for the summer. The Deere will be next. We left that in service as with the rubber tracks we can travel some of the roads and trails easier than with the Bully. We hope you have enjoyed the trails this season and we'll see you back in 10/11

TrailReport: I am not 100% sure, but I believe Vinny M. should have groomed as much of the Copenhagen route as he could depending on snow conditions. The Montague Loops A and B were groomed last night because of warmer temps earlier in the week. Tonight I will be in the John Deere heading to do the Montague Loops A and B. Friday grooming plans look fair but Saturday night doesn't look very promising with day high temps at 42*. Our club plans to groom as long as the weather remains favorable, so everyone should ride whenever the opportunity arises, the snow won't last as long as prior seasons IMO. Ride Right, Ride Safe.

TrailReport: Thanks BC for grooming on Saturday night. You were the only club out. Valley should have been out. The temps were below freezing. The trails in Vally were terrible. Even Timberview was out on Friday. Thank goodness. I know they get alot of traffic through Valley trails, but theres no excuse. Once again - hats off to BC. At least we were able to ride without a chiropractor on board. I too saw the orange jacket madman!! These kids need to calm down, too much adrenalin & budwiser (not a good combo) I agree with many people. Its a shame but "The Hill" is losing its battle to keep good-safe riders coming back. I saw three sheriffs sitting on Culpepper on Saturday. Hopefully they nailed some of these guys.

I've come to the conclusion that area never gets snow. I took trail 8A back in an effort to avoid Brantingham. I wanted to go to Glenndale and hook up to 5A but got lost after the left hand turn off Eatonville Rd. Can somebody tell me where I screwed up. Is 8A-Glenndale-5A any better than going through Brantingham ???? Riding across Stillwater Res is always fun. Came back on 6 mile road through the woods. Nice trail. All in all a very enjoyable ride.

TrailReport: My hats off to the majority of the snowmobile clubs on tug hill. We rent a house every year in Williamstown and with the amount of snow it is amazing how well kept the majority of the trails were. Specifically Barnes Corners, Kasoag, TC Riders, Osceola, Redfield were kept up on a regular basis. On the flip side the Plateau Riders trails were horrible and had much more snow to deal with than other clubs to work with. North South Road was a joke all week. The Timberview guys that run this "club" only complain about the fuel costs for their groomers on a wall in their restaurant while the clubs without a restaurant, hotel and dealership do such a poor job. I will not spend anymore money at Timberview. I'd rather support the businesses who support groomed trails. Join clubs that do a good job where you ride and don't support those who don't. Thanks to all the groomers who made our vacation on the hill great.

TrailReport: I rode on Monday and the trails were outstanding. We left from Redfield, went down through West Lyden to Booneville, up through Constableville to Highmarket, and back down to Redfield. Some of the best riding we have ever done in the area, and we ride there every weekend. I would say maybe 10 miles of the trails we rode were in rough condition, and I am probably overestimating on that. Yes, the plowed roads needs some snow for sure but all in all we couldn't have asked for better. Can't wait to get up there this weekend!! Happy Riding!

TrailReport: Overall how are the trails, and how much snow is there. I am trying to plan a week to come up and ride agian, but from the bits and pieces I'm reading I'm not sure if its worth it. We like to ride 2 to 3 hundred miles a day for 4 or 5 days straight to make the trip worth it because we drive 6 hours to get there. I need your take on how the lower towns are such as booneville and west lyden and how the trails to stillwater and such are, as we like to go different directions each day. When I was up in december the riding on the hill was ok but I dont want to ride the same 100 miles over and over. Is there snow in copenhagen and points north this time and what is the overall outlook. Any info would be appreciated. TrailReport: Hey guys, Thanks for posting the conditions, and thanks to the BCSP for a great job. Last year at this time (third week in February) was my first year to "The Hill" and it was an amazing experience. We are plannig to come up again on Tuesday/Wednesday and stay for a few days. We will have two kids with us, and are looking for areas that will have the least amount of traffic for safety reasons. Any ideas? We ride out of the Worth area. Hopefully there will be some new snow this week, but it doesn't look good. Thanks again!

TrailReport: To answer any ones question, yes we are still grooming and yes there is plenty of snow that can be ridden. The guys are still sticking to the schedule as long as the temps remain below freezing, but we have not received any "new" snow over the last week. Yesterday Vinnie M. and Donnie D. groomed the Copenhagen Trails,(not all the way to Rte 12, due to the lack of snow). Last night Orley L. and myself groomed the Montague Loops "A" and "B". The trail behind Tuggers (Dougs Drive) has a ice/dirt base as does some of the inside corners on the Mile Strip Rd. The main Corridor trail "C5" needed the most attention and the cold temps (-9*) and the traffic last night wasn't making for good snow packing conditions. Riding on the snowbanks down the plowed section of Salmon River Rd is your best option, although a slow bumpy option. With next weeks vacationers and the lack of snow I really hope everyone keeps an open mind and tries to make the best of things. Ride Right, Ride Safe.

TrailReport: We rode about 75 miles Sunday morning. Trails were awesome. BCSP's rule. Thank you for everything you do. We were off trails by lunch time. Early riders get better trail conditions plain and simple. I was almost tagged by an oncoming sled while riding on Mile Strip Rd, heading towards Creekside. There are a couple of icy corners there. Please be careful. This is the second time this year some i was almost hit by some idiot, in the same corner. There is no need to be riding that fast just leaving the parking lot. As far as Park Police are concrened, watch out they also have radar guns. Not sure if they are carrying decibel meters. Thanks again groomer operators, you guys are awesome. Stay Safe!!!! Ride Right!!!

TrailReport: I want to let everyone that has anything to do with the grooming of trails in the Barnes Corners area, that they are doing a great job with the trails, My son and I drove up from Batavia N.Y. where we can only wish for conditions like we saw. We put on 110 miles on Saturday 2/6/10 and found the trails in very good condition for what you have to work with. Yes later in the day the trails were becoming rough with all the heavy traffic, but that is to be expected when riding. Did see a few sleds going as fast as they could which causes the trails to get ripped up. Other than that it was a great day! Thanks to all involved with the hard work of keeping the trails in the condition they are in GREAT JOB!!!

Timestamp: 2/6/2010 6:35:07 PM    Name: Shane  Subject: Trails/Police        E-mail: tughillhunter1@yahoo.com
TrailReport: Here's the deal with the trails, the warm up basically killed the trails. They are all ice underneath and the new snow we have received has been powder, which is awesome to play in when it is fresh, but it doesn't make a good base for the trails. The clubs are grooming nightly but because of the poor snow quality and icy base it does not take long for the moguls to appear and the corners to get icy. With the lack of snow in other areas people are flocking to the hill so the traffic is very heavy and the trails just don't last. I live local and ride almost every weeknight and the weekends, if you want smooth trails you need to ride late night or very early in the morning after the groomers have been out and before the traffic gets heavy. Once you head off of the top of the hill to the lower elevations (Turin, Copenhagen, Redfield, etc.) the snow is very thin and there are many bare spots, you can hear your carbides striking rocks. The clubs are doing what they can with what they have to work with. We need a good blast of snow that has some moisture to it so it can rebuild a decent base and the trails will last. Too bad the storm that hit down south didn't stray up our way. As far as the park police, snowmobiles fall under the parks and recreation department, that is why you only see them in the winter on the hill.

Towards the end of the ride they were getting a little rough, but that will happen when the traffic picks up. Had a nice ride. Can someone answer a question for me ? Me and my family and freinds have rode the hill for 30 years, my sole purpose is to go smowmobiling when i'm there. Why is the park police on the hill ? I was stopped yesterday and was given a ticket for modified exhuast..By the park police ? I do not have a modified exhuast...Do not understand there are people up there no reg, no insurance, and there sole purpose is to see how many beers they can drink... I will fight the ticket.. Thanks bcsp for the nice trails..

TrailReport: Hey... Just a thought, but I figured I get us all back on the right track and post a TRAIL REPORT... Rode last night from Copenhagen, to West Lowville area over to Montague down to Lyons Falls and back around through BC to Copenhagen. From Doyles to Timberview the trails were very good. Yes there are places where it is a little choppy, but if you need a perfectly flat ride, I suggest a motorcycle. South of Timberview forget it. It is passable but from some of the comments I have seen lately, it wouldn't be worth your time. I rode late and the groomers were out. I don't know what the trails are going to be like by mid-day Saturday. I think everyone at Barnes Corners is doing an excellent job. They defenitely have more snow than anyone else to work with, but with that comes more traffic. Keep up the great work Sno-Pals and you will continue to get my membership money each year. -Eric

TrailReport: yup... that's exactly why sleds are so tech/suspension/capable/powerful so you can putt along at 40 making every mogul seem a chore, and complain from out-of-town that the trails weren't mint the 6 hours in a week you were here... the only ignorance in the posts I've reviewed is you not understanding how the low-snow season, the thaw, the quality of the snow that has fallen recently, and the traffic effect the ability to groom a trail that will hold up for more than a few hours and now for a trail report, how's this: clubs are doing what they can with light fluffy reconstituted snow and little base after a recent thaw. You get what you get, as a groom only holds up a few hours with the only snow -high traffic- seen recently, even during the week. don't get your panties wadded because I choose to be capable, adaptable, and have fun with it instead of COMPLAINING. Not being part of the "entitlement" population, I feel any ride is better than no ride at all. You? I live here, understand snow, and what my club is up against trying to make you happy. I kinda like the thought that me coming the other way well in control, on my side of the trail, having a better time and ride quality at 50-60 scares you...but go ahead, call out the law until no one rides...including you.

TrailReport: Dave, get off the case already. It's been explained to you. Lack of the quality of snow that stays in when groomed, a base that got all but eliminated in the thaw, AND heavier than usual weekday traffic. It's not rocket science to understand this. There is a reason groomers for the most part aren't out in the hieght of the day up here! "Beating"? if your 60 and riding a 700lb Yamaha then maybe you should avoid the Hill (ride at home or switch brands) as the conditions of late would not be kind to either factor. I'm 45 and ride a well shocked and dialed in Rev and have no complaints considering what there is to work with as of late. Put down 360 miles Mon night thru Wed. I got a couple sore muscle groups, but also hadn't ridden in 10 days. I don't prefer heavy moguls (don't even feel the small stuff), but it's snowmobiling in a high traffic zone w/chit snow to work with right now, it's a FUN workout at worst, and excuses me from aerobics the next morning! Lastly, why are you the only one on the page w/a BS email address showing on your posts? Lastly, your $ sure won't hurt BCSP right now, but won't buy mother nature and provide glass trails anyday or time-of-day YOU want them!

I myself don't enjoy 2-3-4 foot moguls like some of the other posters on the site. I can't take the beating anymore. My point was only with the trails being so bad on wed. night is there anything anyone can do to help the Sno Pals with grooming. Do you need more money or volunteers???? If so please let people know and there may be a way we can help. Looking forward to smooth trails and lots of riding in the season to come. Thanks Dave

TrailReport: I rode 335 miles over the weekend then we did another 100+ miles Wednesday night and I thought the Wednesday night trails were the most fun trails we'd been on all year. 1'-2' mogals with a nice rhythm to them. I'm not 25 anymore so I'm not a big fan of big mogals, but the stuff we were riding was fun. The groomers were out on the way back, so those there was something for everyone I guess. Considering The Hill is about the only place with any snow I think the trails are in EXCELLENT shape.

The traffic this week has been extremely heavy and the light fluffy snow which came Sunday is nrarly impossible to work with. It just does not hold up. Bear with us, once it warams a bit or we get more snow the trails should be up to the standards you desire.

Groomed and loose this morning...this fluffy snow of late with little base gets pushed up into moguls in NO TIME AT ALL. Rough on the way back across but then again our sleds are SET UP and can comfortably run 50-60++ in that 1-2' trash AND keep right. All in all a great ride today, a little of everything. Valley? grooming Flat Rock at 6. LEO out on sleds roving...hassling more like it spun around and pulled over the 40 MPH caboose in our group just to check reggie and paper. This is getting rediculous! While cans are everywhere, noticed more today than any day so far. There was quite a bit of traffic for a Wed.

I guess I don't understand with the groomers and the snow why the trails are that bad. We rode last Fri. Sat. and Sunday and watched the steady decline in conditions. My only gripe with the adams loop out there is the bare pavement riding you have to do to continue on the loop. too bad there isn't a way to go wide out behind all those properties on that road and link back up where the plows stop where you make the right hand turn. other than that. we found awesome trails up until about 1pm on saturday, then the BC area had taken a beating but nothing more than big studder bumps. not huge rollers. You guys do a great job and I always have nothing but huge thanks for all the hard work the BCSP crew does to make their trails top notch even when you were down a groomer.

TrailReport: The snow pole is an honest depth located at a very secret location somewhere on Tug Hill. The new snowfall races up the pole than settles back down after a couple days to get an estimated base depth. As I reported before the snow banks on Salmon River Rd are below average height and can easily be driven on if you choose not to ride on the plowed road. I also would suggest to ride whenever the opportunity should arise. If you pass up every chance to ride the next thing you know the season is over, if you have a good time than you'll likely be more willing to take a chance in the future. Ride Right, Ride Safe.

There has been times his reports say 2 feet on the hill, when there has been upwards of 4 feet. Its quite annoying acutally. NEVER go by his judgement of snow depths. Another funny thig is, HE DOESN"T EVEN RIDE THE TRAILS! All he does is do drive bys and reports by "other sources". scroll down his reports page for this season, you dont see ONE instance where he posts pictures, like he has in the past...his credibility is in the shitter as far as im concerned..I just look at the webcams. good day.

TrailReport: Good news all around. The Pisten Bully is back in action, and was chewing up moguls and laying down a ribbon like trail. Thursday night I groomed 12"-16" of new snow completing the Montague Loops "A" and "B" in the John Deere. Friday night, with the return of the Pisten Bully, the Brimmer boys groomed the Montague Loops and saw frigid temps down to -26*. Bone chilling temps on Saturday didn't keep many at home as all the businesses were packed with sledders trying to get warm. Saturday night myself and Heath combined our forces and went to work cutting moguls and bank corners that were made by the heavy traffic during the day. This Montague Loop had hard packed snow with a decent base, although the trail behind Tuggers and parts of Mile Strip Rd are already showing some dirt/ice sections. I met the Redfield groomer at the Mad River Gates and also the sleds are riding the banks for most of the plowed sections of SRR. If we can get some more snow during the next couple weeks than we would be better prepared for the President's week vacation. Drive Right, Ride Safe.

Corners are icy, snow is lose, turns can be rough and sketchy. I was satisfied for not having snow in awhile and traffic was high. Sheriffs were all over also. The old railbed trail was good condition, montague are was good, around Flat Rock/Timberview was fair/rough. Hope that helps.

TrailReport: Studs are great in some instances but I have never studded a track in my 20+ years of riding. When you stud a track, power is taken away from the track because of the weight and the digging in. Also, as Scott mentioned, you are putting holes in the track and weakening it to a point. I really don't like the way they dig up the bed on my trailer, either. Just my thoughts.......... Thank you

TrailReport: I know the benefits of studs... BUT..... TOO many throttle jockey's just use them to strip out corners..... dig out road banks and spray riders behind them !!!! Every goose on throttle leaves a big pile behind them.... So.... as a respectful rider and one that wishes Everyone would be considerate of our trails and the people who will ride behind them. I say NO to studs.... be safe out there ! enjoy the ride !

TrailReport: Personally, I have never ran studs on any of my machines until last year when I purchased a newer touring sled for my wife and daughter. I have been riding snowmobiles for 28 years with an average of 2000 miles a season the last 10 years. In all those years there is only once that I feel I would have seriously benefited from studs. 4 years ago the wife and I came upon a rather steep downhill with a fairly sharp turn at the bottom. Fortunately the hill wasn't more than a 100 yards or so, because do to the position it, the sun would warm it all afternoon long and then it turned to ice at night. I managed to slide both sleds down the hill with a lot of luck and managed to muscle them around the turn to safety. There was no way I could have got back up though. The other guys in our group were studded and had no trouble at all. I still ride these days without studs but the wife prefers them for the added safety in these situation.I personally feel that the added wear on the track that studs cause is not worth it for me, but to each there own. I have over 8000 miles on my current track it is still in good shape. Most people Ride with have to replace there tracks every 3000 to 5000 mile depending on the amount of studs they run. Remember for every stud you put in thats 1 more hole in your track, and for every hole you put in it weakens the overall strenght of it that much more. Again this is just my personnal opinion.

TrailReport: Nick, Its simple. If you do a lot of deep powder riding dont waste your money on studs. However, if you trail ride, stud your track. As I mentioned before, it WILL HELP you a great deal when stopping or cornering, in icy conditions. Last thing you want to happen is have that long track get sideways in a tight corner, with oncoming traffic. It also gets more power to the ground on hard pack or lake ice. If your worried about damaging your trailer, get an old track or piece of conveyor belt and screw it to trailer decking. This will also allow a studded machine to walk up a tilt bed trailer rather effortlessly. STAY SAFE!! RIDE RIGHT!!!

TrailReport: studs may stop you, but if the ice is hard enough they're only like nails on a black board. Besides if they stop you quick enough, the guy behind you's going to rear end you anyway... they're also a bit** when you pick them up in your wheeler tires later on. picked up 17 of them walking from Gardners to the truck trail one spring. at least on lakes they sink.

TrailReport: On the subject of studding a track. It's a must for lake running. On gromed trails they don't help at all EXCEPT when you hit that ice in the corners. My sleds are not studded and I do just fine. They make a mess of garage floors and trailers, not to mention the extra handling needed when working on the sled. Also when you cross one of the many steel deck bridges on the hill I can almost guarantee that you rip one out of the track. In the end it comes down to person choice, like everything else. IMHO not worth the $$$ or time UNLESS you do a lot of lake running

Again t is my opinion. Good luck

TrailReport: Although we have not received any new snow,we have been able to groom all our trails per our revised schedule over the last week. The John Deere has run admirably and will continue too thanks to good operators and regular planned maintenance. Due to below average snowfall, while we have snow on our trails, at best "it's marginal". It appears that we are going to have a two day warming spell with heavy rains and wind gusts near 30 mph. Obviously that's bad. The good news is it looks as if we will have winter like conditions immediately after this "hic-cup". Hopefully we will be blessed with significant accumulations, have the Pisten Bully back and have things all set for a pleasurable ride for everyone. Ride Right, Ride Safe.

TrailReport: Today Vinnie M. groomed the trails from Barnes Corners to Copenhagen. I was told that you can ride most of the snowbanks along the plowed section of Corey Rd but I saw that the plowed road is bare from the Pinkney Town Barn on Cty Rte 194, until you cross State Rte 177 and get to the parking lot across from Louies. This section is not that long (maybe 400 yds) but it is bare. Tonight Tim M. left around 5:00 pm to groom the Montague Loops "A" and "B". Around 7:30 pm I stopped at Tug Hill Inn and Tim was having some dinner, Tim said that the trails were in need of grooming and he could tell that the trails have had a lot of traffic. From the amount of sleds that I saw at Tuggers, Montague and Tug Hill Inn tonight I would say that there is still plenty of decent rideable snow. There was still snow/ice coverage on Salmon River Rd from Sears Pond Rd to Tug Hill Inn, but I am not sure how it is further up going toward the groomed trail to Redfield. Ride Right, Ride Safe.

The trail behind Tuggers, (Dougs Drive) has snow coverage but has become Snirt like in color and quality. Most other trails had decent cover and groomed up pretty nicely, especially as you get farther up from B.C. I was warned by a snowmobiler that a car was on Olin Rd and have been told that V.S.T. club had dealt with them. Culpepper and Pitcher Rd and the Tom Saywer Trail held up good since the last time groomed on Tuesday. Sled traffic was heavier than the past two Thursday nights, maybe due to the warming weather. I beat the Redfield club to the Mad River Gates so I'm not sure if they were out and as I all ready stated Valley Snow Travelers were grooming last night. Remember the temps need to be around freezing or colder for us to put down a nice sheet-like finish. Hopefully mother nature will be kind to us, we really need more snow to build on our marginal base. Ride Right, Ride Safe.

Yes people are crazy on sleds but people are crazy in cars. Go put a check point on the road some where. Back off the hill.

More accidents and more deaths, plain and simple. They are there not only to enforce, but to deter. I guess if you have a complaint about them having too many checks and stopping speeders, then you should approach them and tell them what you think.

TrailReport: Paul: you know who I am. I have been riding on Tug Hill since 1975 long before most folks here were even riding sleds. Guess what? I have never crashed or got any tickets because generally we obey the laws. If you want to label me as a " SPEEDER " for going 45 on the Horace trail then I guess I am. I defy anyone here to claim that they can ride any of the conservation trails posted at 25MPH. I believe these signs were meant for summer traffic not sleds, however tickets are being written for sledders going 35 to 45. This is way wrong and it was my original point. Gary's response was rude and ignorant. Also I am getting tired of having to stop 3 or 4 times a weekend to produce my registration and insurance card to show to 4 different law enforcement groups. I would be willing to bet that a lot of folks agree but are afraid to express this here.

As far as harrassment by law enforcement by stopping sleds and conducting check points, give me a break. They are there to ensure that people obey the rules and that everyone is safe. If you don't like the speed limits and being checked by law enforcement then go someplace else to snowmobile because we want Tug Hill and the surrounding areas to be safe!

I defy anyone to do this and not get run over. Seriously this is striclty a ploy to create revenue and I defy any reasonable person to argue otherwise. Why are the clubs sitting still for this unreasonable situation? Also roadblocks to check documents as frequently as is being done is harassment at best. You can bet if it was done to all motor vehicles that someone would point out that there is no probable cause to stop a sledder 3 or 4 times in a weekend to check documents. Other than that the Sno Pals are doing a fantastic job on the trails

TrailReport: Just hours after Gary finished grooming the Barnes Corners to Copenhagen routes yesterday I headed out to groom the Montague Loops "A " and "B" Loops. Traffic was pretty steady early but I don't remember seeing any sledders after 11:30p.m. We have received a much needed amount of new snow over the last week which is building up a decent base and helped freeze up any water crossings. A couple of ice/dirt base inside corners on Mile Strip Rd and the Horace Forward Truck Trail can be safely navigated. Redfield Snowmobile Club had already turned around at the Mad River Gates before I got there and the plowed section of Salmon River Rd did have a nice powder base along the snow banks. Sadly I saw where some sledders are driving beyond reasonable speeds and went of the groomed trails, SLOW DOWN, DON'T BECOME A STATISTIC. Ride Right, Ride Safe.

I left the groomer barn at 9:45 pm to groom the Montague Loops "A" and "B" and was fueling the John Deere back up at 6:45am. Traffic was pretty steady for most of the night but the snow seemed to work good in the drags and left a nice finished product. Heavy holiday traffic has caused some of the sharper corners to have ice or dirt inside lanes so I tried to pull some snow threw these corners. I wasn't surprised to see that Valley Snow Travelers had Parker Rd groomed to perfection and also as far up Flat Rock Rd that I could see. Also when I got to the Mad River gates on Salmon River Rd I could see that the Redfield Club had been out yesterday. Light snow fell during the night but only about an inch had settled on my parked vehicle at Barnes Corners. NOTE: The trail behind Tuggers (Doug's Drive) still has some dirt base but is ridable. Ride Right, Ride Safe.

TrailReport: Update on the Pisten Bully from Gary: Got the oil pan off and found a gash approx 1 1/2 inches wide by 6 or 7 " long. Much larger than what it looked like while laying in the snow. In the pan was lots of metal filings and several large pieces of metal about the size of your finger nail. One of our members who is a diesel mechanic got under it and disconnected 2 of the connecting rods and found that the crank is torn up which means the engine has to come out. No estimate yet but he thinks it will be in the $14,000 area! Not sure when (or even if) the Bully will return to service. It may be several weeks. Grooming: We have redone our grooming schedule which should leave our trails in excellent condition. We'll have what some may call a "hot seat" as there will be times when the John Deere comes back for fuel then goes back out with a different operator. Our goal is to continue to provide the trail conditions which you have come to expect from the BCSP's.

Adams route trails from the groomer barn to County Route 95 were groomed. This afternooon Brian and Heath groomed the 2 Montague Routes. Seasonal roads are in excellent shape. Dirt based trails such as Tom Sawyer and the Powerline trail need more snow but all water areas are frozen up.

TrailReport: I would like to say thanks to all of the groomer operators and to Gary for grooming the trails in Barnes Corners and Tug Hill. I have been a member of Sno-Pals for last four years now and am proud to be one. The best club up there in my opinion. The season has gotten off to a great start. Yes there will be some water holes and muddy areas but I am just thankful that there has been snow so early and I have ridden 200 miles already. Trails were great weekend of December 19th. Let the naysayers go to another club. I will continue to support BC Sno-Pals!!!

TrailReport: Hit the trail today at 10 am in BC. Anyone complaining about the trails should have their head examined. We rode 97 mi. today and trails were good to verygood. Use common sense and those rocks or slightly worn corners willn't be a problem. All clubs have done an excellent job with the snow they recieved almost 2 weeks ago. BC snowpals have the least amount of snow but trails get better as you move south and east. All roads are hard packed and ridable (but again use your head) except sears pond which was ice and no lube, use the Tom Sawyer trail. All trails from flatrock to tabolts corners were flat and fast, the railroad bed was verygood, back around on the number 9 road to tabolt corners was good with some small rollers and corners a bit bumpy. Still riding 40 mph through this area. Flatrock and rector were flat and fast. West end of flatrock from parker to pitcher was bumpy but not brutal. Back at the truck at 3pm and home in rochester before 6pm. If you can get a ride in before the weather changes you willnot be disappointed.

TrailReport: 150 mile trip today dropped in Barnes Corners rode the Sno-Pals Montague trails (good to excellent) to the start of the Redfield trail system on SRR and turned around as the trail is in need of grooming. It appeared Valley Sno-Travelers groomed Flat Rock, Carey and French last night and also opened up Toole Road and the west end of Graves. This has areas light on snow but all is passable. Good alternative to the plowed section of Graves. Houseville Gulf Road was freshly groomed. Headed to Brantingham and then fueled up in Lyons Falls. Route back up the escarpment was a freshly groomed Morgan Gulf Road. Once back to BC hit the Sno-Pals trails between BC and Copenhagen. Trails groomed last Thursday have held up perfect. C5 trail between BC and Corey Road is VERY ROUGH but passable take it slow it's a short distance Best groomed trails of the day honor goes to co-winners Valley and Timberview. Passed about 12 sleds all day

TrailReport: Hopefully the snow will fall if not now big deal it will eventually. The reason I joined the BC Sno-Pals is because their trails are consistently the best. Sure once in a while they are bumpy but with the traffic they see its understandable. But more often than not they have the smoothest trails when the rest are a mess. I will admit that for the most part all of the clubs have been doing a decent job in the last couple of years.

It's so early in the season. they are working on getting the trails a good base to it lasts through the winter. I almost wish that when the first few snowfalls hit, that the trails be closed so they aren't ripped up before a base can form. the start of the season should be based on trail conditions. a few feet of snow can be ruined easily with people thinking it's February and ripping it all up before it can set and be groomed properly

TrailReport: First i would just like to say that in previous years I was always very supportive to your club and its dedicated few that maintain the trails. 2nd your right you guys usually had some of the best trails but, last year this was not the case the 3 trips i made for 4 or 5 days at a time. All of which were weekday trips, 1 in january, 1 in february, and 1 the 1st week of march last season. 3rd this season is starting the same way and I wanted to know why. You had no problem getting guys out to groom for the weekend, probably because you wanted a good turn out for the pig roast. 4th my comments were not to bash the guys whon voluteer there time to groom they were directed toward the president or whoever makes the decision that its notworth grooming at that time. I can understand when the temps. are to warm as was the case last weekend, but when I was there, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, The temps. were well below freezing and it did drop 4 or 5 inches in your area of fresh snow on top of what was there at least the 1 evening, along with the fact that the southern tier received 10 inches and they were not ou grooming either, so I don't understand.5th I appologize to the several other groomer operators who thought I was bashing them personally. Goodbye all and have a Merry Christmas or whatecer holiday you all celebrate.

TrailReport: I would like to thank everybody that stopped by the groomer barn yesterday to say "hello" and enjoy some delicious food. We are already talking about having a 3rd annual pig roast due to the increase in snowmobilers that made time to stop and visit. TRAIL REPORT. Last night Heath and myself groomed both of the Montague Loops A and B. (Except for, Ognabene Trail, Horace Forace Trail from Mile Strip Rd to 7x9 Rd and Worth/Waite Rd from Forks Rd to 7x9 Rd.) The trail behind Tuggers has dirt/snow/ice and so does some of the Mile Strip Rd. The snow coverage gets better the farther you go from Barnes Corners. Traffic was steady all night and the cold temperatures (7*) kept the snow from really binding up. We really need new snow to help build on our base, but I have seen worse years so I'm not going to complain. Ride right and Have a MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone.

Found most dirt based trails to have minimal cover and very rough terrain. All water holes were locked up and easily passable. WE NEED MORE SNOW!!! The new trail from Nice and Easy is great thanks to all the landowners for making this happen. Smith Road is PLOWED from end to end. The northern end of Trail C4G is plowed for logging on the Swanscott Mills end. The south end of this trail has several downed trees. TrailReport: The snows which came 8 - 10 day ago was typical lake effect snows. It was received in narrow bands from Adams to Lowville and points south of that. It also came with high winds which destroyed property in the Southern Jefferson County area. As President of the Barnes Corners Sno-Pals we got one groomer out Sat the 12th and removed approx 16 trees from the trails. The snow arrived before any water holes were frozen so as we worked our way towards Montague our drags and machine become increasing heavy as did the snow. In Barnes Corners when we left I would estimate they had approx 12" on the ground. As we got over to the Tom Sawyer trail the snows were up to the bottom of the windshield so we were in approx 3 1/2 to 4 foot of snow with a drag that most likely weighted twice what it normally does. So having had removed the 16 trees we went back to the garage and called it a day. Sunday was warm with rain. Monday was about freezing so we got both groomers out and did the whole Montague trail system. Many more trees were removed from the trail and the trails were very smooth. Traffic was light all week and I spoke to several riders on Thrusday and again Friday and again today. All of them said our trails were fine except for some corners that got pushed up a bit. We will go out tonight to fix what we can ,however snow around Barnes Corners is light as it is near the gate to Rdefield's trails. Trails towards Montague have adequate snow coverage. Regarding Copenhagen trails they were groomed Thursday as far as the eastern end of the Picnkney Rd after that the fields were wind swept and some corn is still standing. (We just this morning got approval from the farmer to make a cut through that corn field) Once again trees were removed from McGown,Tontarski and Pinckney Roads. Next time out if snow conditons are adequate we'll make it to the Rt 12 turn around, the end of our system. This morning (12-19) we went towards Adams and stopped at Gruntly Rd as DEC has not opened the gates yet. In all likely hood we would have stopped anyway as the snow was getting very shallow. We remove several more trees from the portion of C5A which runs under the power line. Grooming equipment is very expensive snd you try not to use it in conditions which are marginal at best. The BCSP are looking at trying to replace the 2005 Piston Bully and it will be in the $185,000 range. All the groomer guys at BCSP (and I for that matter) take great pride in our trails and grooming. We ask that you be a little patient until more snow arrives. Thank You Gary

TrailReport: Was up in the area for the first trip of the season. Arrived tuesday evening in Lowville at 6p.m and unloaded. On the trail by 7p.m. Hit great trails all the way to flat rock and then on to montague. Valley was out grooming as it was needed the trails were already in good shape. Then on to Barnes corners. Sno pals trails all in all were ok. Covered 163 miles and mostly in same area, tried to venture toward redfield but, as usual the trails that way were getting rough. awoke early wednesday to some fresh snow and hit the usual spots first. Sno pals trails looked appeared to have not been groomed as the turns on some trails were getting choppy. All vally's trails were excellent. Headed south from talbots corners and as always north road was horrible. Took Mcgoldrick down toward barrows and then on south to the hideaway. Was dissappointed to find out it was shut down again. Plenty of fresh powder that way, close to 10 inches or more, but no groomers in sight. Turned back and headed for the sportsmans. C4 was getting rough. Clocked 264 for the day. Early start on thursday only to find out the Sno pals still had not been out. Tried trail toward coopenhagen but it appeared we were only the 2nd to do so, so we turned back and headed south. Made it as far as the sportsman only to find out that southern tug was not out the night before either. Ended the day with 314 miles mostly riding the same trails over and over and over. Never did see the sno pals out once or any other club except for valley which was ou every night. What a major dissapointment. All that early snow and perfect temps, yet no one was doing anything with it except valley. Maybe the sno pals can donate my $25.00 to them since at least there doing there part. I for one know I won't be a sno pal member next year if this keeps up, and i defenitely won't be supporting anymore of your fund raisers, what a waste. You guys used to be the best and now I'm not sure your even a club, because from what I know, clubs groom!!!!

The dirt base trail from Rte 194 to Corey Road was avoided due to assumed water issues but all the area seasonal roads were groomed and cleared of downed trees. 4* and sunny in Barnes Corners at 1PM. Not a lot of snow up that way but it is a nice solid base. Turned the machine back to BC where the groomed section of Pinkney Road ends and the trail turns into a hayfield behind the Tug Hill Sports Lodge...the snow cover on fields was significantly windblown

We also opened the gates on the Ognibene trail (S57 between Waite Road and Horace Forward Truck Trail) As far as the conditions...typical early season riding...some trail breaking through fresh deep powder, some water on dirt based trails, some cowpaths, some moguls and lots of great riding especially on seasonal roads.

Everytime you go through a waterhole it will take twice as long for the water mess holes to freeze up. Theres low temps. in the forecast let mother nature do its thing, give it atleast another week, the base will be great and we'll have a great season of riding. Ride safe, smart and to the right!

Trails that cross private property do not open until the end of hunting season (this year that date is December 7th) AND when the property owner opens the gates. Sno-Pals never starts grooming until hunting season is over AND we have adequate snow conditions. We will post updates on this website as soon as we have more information. TrailReport: I’m posting the following to give everyone a heads up. This morning I received an e-mail that the BOD of the Barnes Corners Sno-pals had a special meeting on Saturday and voted to suspended my grooming duties. While this might not sit well with some I am ok with it, let me explain. As everyone knows the economy this year hasn’t exactly been stellar. We got extremely slow at my normal day job and I was on 32 hours for 5 month. Having 3 day weekends is really nice but when you have to pay the same bills at the end of the month it hurts your wallet big time. Being I am single and my sole provider, I had to tighten my belt (which included fewer trips to Tug Hill) and find side jobs to make ends meet. Also as some of you know I am a huge fan of drag racing, which is really my passion. This past season I started crewing on 2 more race teams (now I crew on 3). All that left me/ leaves me with less time to do volunteer work for the Sno-pals so it is time for me to hanf my key in and walk away. I will still be around and my NorthernChateau web site will continue to run 24/7. If anyone needs to reach me please feel free and hit me up at Paul@northernchateau.com.

TrailReport: Just a suggestion but it would be pretty cool if you could put a thermometer on the webcam somehow. Just so everyone knows what the tempuratures are like because we all know how accurate the weather stations are. Even maybe put one in the yard but close enough so it can be read on the camera.
